Oh my, what a month June has been! Rayola has been so busy, I thought I would update everyone on what we have been doing.
First of all, we are immensely grateful for all the support and donations. Your time and supplies have been put to good use as already in 2021, we have distributed over 100 pillowcases and 89 quilts! We are especially excited since items were spread to children in not only Ogemaw County, but also in Roscommon, Oscoda, Crawford, Bay, Alcona, and Iosco counties. Our Rayola team members and volunteers are working tirelessly with DHHS caseworkers to make sure the needs of children in many counties are receiving the comfort items we can provide.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to sew quilt tops for us. A special thank you goes out to Ethel Littleton and Anita Bartman for helping quilt so many of them!
Along with the quilts, Rayola has been starting a few new partnerships and projects that we would like to announce. First, we have recently been chosen to partner with the Rifle River Quilt Guild on their annual Quilt Walk! The Quilt Walk is an event put on by the Rifle River Quilt Guild every year to promote the love of quilting and support a local charity. At this event, you will see loads of beautiful quilts, get a day of walking and relaxation, and have plenty of opportunities to support Rayola in the process. There will be a sidewalk sale, a pick-and-win table, a quilt project to judge, and much more. The event is on October 7-9th in downtown West Branch so come and join us!
To celebrate the Quilt Walk, there will also be a quilt raffle that anyone can enter. You can buy tickets at the Quilt Walk, Pinnacle Rehab in West Branch, or you can email Rayola. Tickets are 3 for $5.00 and you do not need to be present to win.
Second, this week we were fortunate enough to receive a grant from the United Way of Ogemaw County! It is exciting to have the support of other local nonprofits as we strive to provide comfort and care to children in need. The United Way grant money will be used to provide more comfort kits to children and youth in Ogemaw County. It is wonderful and we are so thankful.
Third, we would like to announce that Rayola now has a "Registry for Good" at Walmart.com. This registry works just like a wedding or baby registry, except that everything you buy is donated to our cause. To use the registry, you can go onto Walmart.com and purchase any of the listed items you would like to donate. It's that easy! All of these items will go to the children and youth in the foster care system in Northern Michigan. Click on the link below to view the registry!
When ordering, click "Pickup" and send to the Walmart in West Branch to save on shipping.
(Walmart will then notify us and a Board member from Rayola can pick it up!)
As you can see, we are busy distributing items, working with many volunteers, and striving to raise the needed funds to expand our efforts. This week was a good week, and as we continue to work with others in helping the kids who need it most, we will have many more to come.
